![]() ![]() ![]() They (mostly Valentine) encounter gobs of obstacles and people with a lot of personality, most of whom see the world a lot more clearly than Valentine does.Īs I read, I thought about how Bonny holds up a figurative mirror for Valentine, encouraging him to look at elements of himself he doesn’t seem to see. On the surface, this is a lighthearted adventure in which Valentine, a duke with a lot of names, and Bonny, not a duke but utterly delightful, adventure through the countryside in pursuit of Bonny’s histrionic sister Arabella. So the book also kind of…did something to me. Except it turns out that sometimes a window also functions as a mirror and that mirror can throw back at me a reflection of some element of myself that contains something I’ve never bothered to really look at before. Usually, I would say that one of the reasons I love books is because they provide perspective-a way for me to see and understand the way people who are not me see and understand life. This book has inspired in me some fascination/obsession with figurative mirrors. ![]()
